Parent Update Week of October 22nd 3rd ELA
Last week in third grade ELA, students started learning about prefixes, suffixes, and root words. We continue to work on parts of speech, with a focus right now of recognizing the difference between action and state of being verbs. In class, together, we have also been practicing making inferences everyday. They are finding out it takes a lot of practice, but they are getting very good at making the inferences. Lastly, we read a couple chapters out of our whole class novel, Because of Winn Dixie. 4th ELA Last week in fourth grade ELA, students finished their Unit 3 Greek and Latin root words, took the quiz, and will be getting ready for a new set. We started practicing inferences again, to refresh their memory from last year, and apply it to our whole class novel, Number the Stars. We have been working on action, helping, and linking verbs, along with verb tenses, and lastly, they enjoyed a Feel Good Friday with centers after their mentor sentence quiz. 5th ELA Last week in fifth grade ELA, students finished their Unit 4 Greek and Latin root words, took the quiz, and will be getting ready for a new set this week.
