3rd ELA
This week in 3rd grade Reading and English, students had an interactive notebook lesson on characters, we are practicing characters with our whole class novel, Charlotte's Web, as well as their independent novels. They also had a chance to participate in their first ever spelling bee. We had a preliminary round in class to see what three students would participate in the school wide spelling bee on Monday. Vocabulary has also been a main focus for our whole class novel. They are learning to look up words, change the definition into their own words, or look at the synonyms, and find a picture to go with the word. Lastly, on Friday they enjoyed a feel good Friday with mini ELA centers. 4th ELA This week in 4th grade Reading and English, 4th graders took their Unit 7 Greek and Latin root word quiz, and they participated in the preliminary round to see who is going to be moving on to the school wide spelling bee. We had an interactive notebook lesson on alliteration, as they have been learning and practicing figurative language. In class, we are continuing on in our whole class novel, Holes. On Friday they enjoyed a Feel Good Friday with ELA centers. Lastly, they have been having a good time participating in "Olympic Games" everyday in spirit of the 2018 Winter Olympics. 5th ELA This week in 5th grade Reading and English, 5th graders took their Unit 7 Greek and Latin root word quiz, and they participated in the preliminary round to see who is going to be in the school wide spelling bee. They had an interactive notebook lesson on alliterations, as they have been learning and practicing figurative language. In class, we are continuing on in our whole class novel, Island. This is the first year they will be participating in the school wide speech contest, and we have been working on researching and writing their speeches. On Friday, they enjoyed participating in ELA centers.
