week of September 25 parent update 3rd Grade ELA
This week in 3rd grade English and Reading, students had MAPS testing. We continue to read our classroom novel, students had had a mini lesson on inferences and we practiced them in class by listening to paragraphs and answering questions. They also read paragraphs on their own and highlighted clue words of where they found their answers. On Thursday, we reviewed common and proper nouns, and Friday they enjoyed a PBIS assembly for the half day. 4th Grade ELA This week in 4th grade English and Reading, students had MAPS testing. We continued reading our classroom novel, students had a mini lesson on important story elements and we practiced them by remembering the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We continue to practice inferences and common and proper nouns, and Friday they enjoyed a PBIS assembly. 5th Grade ELA This week in 5th grade English and Reading, student had MAPS testing. We continue our classroom novel, students had a mini lesson on important story elements, they received chapter 3 Greek and Latin root vocabulary words, and they enjoyed a PBIS assembly on Friday.

Week of September 18 Update 3rd Grade ELA
In third grade Reading and English this week we started learning and practicing roots, prefixes, and suffixes. They had an interactive notebook lesson on nouns and common and proper nouns. In class, we practiced by playing Kahoots and they had an independent practice on their own. This week we finished up on reading testing and started our first read aloud book together, The Mouse and the Motorcycle. We will be starting guided reading groups next week and they will be given their SRC requirements. 4th Grade ELA In fourth grade Reading and English this week students started practicing inferences in class. They had one independent practice on their own, and we will continue to practice them through the next couple of weeks as well as in the novels that we read throughout the year. They had an interactive notebook lesson on common and proper nouns, and we have been practicing critical verbs that we review every few days. We finished reading testing and we started our first read aloud, The Kid in the Red Jacket. Next week they will be given SRC requirements, and we still start guided reading groups. 5th Grade ELA In fifth grade Reading and English this week students continued to practice Greek and Latin root words with their chapter 1 words, they started practicing inferences in class, which they will continue to do through next week. They had an interactive notebook lesson on common and proper nouns. They practiced by playing a Kahoot in class, and had independent work on their own. We also finished up reading testing and started out first whole class novel, Frindle. Next week they will be given their SRC requirements. 3rd Grade ELA
This week in 3rd grade ELA we have been focusing on reading running records. Along with running records, we had a mini lesson on questioning when we are reading a story, they practiced questioning after watching Little Red Riding Hood, we started learning about roots, prefixes, and suffixes, and they practiced reading a story out loud with a partner. 4th Grade ELA This week in 4th grade ELA we focused on running records. Along with running records, we had a mini lesson on parts of speech, they practiced using their notes while we played a parts of speech Kahoot, they also practiced independently with a parts of speech mystery picture. They read a story and answering questions, and we started practicing the writing process with our paragraph of the week. 5th Grade ELA This week in 4th grade ELA we focused on running records. Along with running records, we had a mini lesson on parts of speech, they practiced using their notes while we played a parts of speech Kahoot, they also practiced independently with a parts of speech mystery picture. This week in 3rd grade ELA students got to know Mrs. Hegemann by guessing the answers to questions about her. Each student also go to introduce themselves by sharing an "All About Me" pendant. The class also set up iPads, organized their supplies, and started writing a story. 4th Grade Reading/English This week in 4th grade ELA students got to know Mrs. Hegemann by guessing the answers to questions about her. Each student also go to introduce themselves by sharing an "All About Me" pendant. The class also set up notability on their iPads, organized their supplies in their desks, they set up a Read Theory account for reading, wrote a story, and set up their interactive notebooks for mini lesson in Reading and English. 5th Grade Reading/English This week in 5th grade ELA students got to know Mrs. Hegemann by guessing the answers to questions about her.
