Parent Update week of October 23 3rd Grade ELA
This week in 3rd grade English and Reading, students had a lesson on summarizing. We practiced together as a class, then they practiced with books from the library in partners, and they will continue to practice independently next week. They also had an interactive notebook lesson on subjects and predicates in a sentence. Lastly, we finished our whole class novel, Mouse and the Motorcycle, and they enjoyed centers on Friday. 4th Grade ELA This week in 4th grade English and Reading, we focused on finishing up our classroom novel and practicing plot. Using their classroom novel, they had to pick out the exposition, rising action events, climax, falling action events, and resolution. Along with typing up their events, they had to find pictures and make a poster out of all of it. They had an interactive notebook lesson on apostrophes, and lastly, they enjoyed centers on Friday. 5th Grade ELA This week in 5th grade English and Reading, we focused on finishing up our classroom novel, Frindle, and practiced plot within Frindle. They practiced by making a poster with all of the elements of plot along with pictures. Greek and Latin roots vocabulary words were reviewed and we will be having a quiz on those next week. They had an interactive lesson on apostrophes, and will be practicing possessives next week in class. Lastly, they enjoyed centers on Friday!

Parent update week of October 9 3rd Grade ELA
This week in 3rd grade English and Reading, students had an interactive notebook lesson on main idea and details. We practiced together as a class, watched a Brainpop video on main idea, and next week they will start to practice on their own. They also have been learning about analogies and figuring out relationships between words. We practiced everyday together, and will continue to practice into next week. Our classroom novel is still being read out loud together, and they are all working on finding chapter books they enjoy reading independently. On Friday, they enjoyed a round of literacy centers. 4th Grade ELA This week In 4th grade English and Reading, students had a grammar lesson on comma rules. They practiced by correcting sentences and finding what rule it was in their notes. We will continue to practice into next week. We have also been learning about analogies and word relationships, as well as still practicing making inferences from text we read. They were also introduced to a close read, which forces them to think as they are reading, we will be continuing the close read into next week. We are almost finished with our classroom novel, and they are working on finding independent chapter books they really enjoy. Lastly, they enjoyed centers on Friday. 5th Grade ELA This week in 5th grade English and Reading, we continued on in our whole class novel, they created their own new words for an object because that what the character does in our classroom novel, they presented them to the class, and they will be hung in the hallway. They also had an interactive notebook lesson on comma rules, and we practiced them together. We have been working on word relationships, and analogies within the classroom, and lastly they enjoyed centers on Friday! 3rd Grade ELA
This week in third grade Reading and English, we continue to practice inferences in class and independently. In addition to inferences students are practicing important story elements in our classroom novel as well as their independent novels. Starting this week they have reading homework every night which is glued in their notebook. They had a grammar interactive lesson on plural nouns which we practiced together by playing a Kahoot, and they also practiced independently while using their notes. 4th Grade ELA This week in fourth grade Reading and English, fourth graders had two interactive notebook lessons. One was about capitalization rules, and the other was about the plot of a story. They practiced both of these as a whole class with our classroom novel and independently with their personal novels. Starting this week they have reading homework every night with their personal novels which is glued in their notebooks. 5th Grade ELA This week in fifth grade Reading and English, fifth graders had an interactive notebook lesson on capitalization rules and on the plot of a story. They continue to practice inferences while reading our whole class novel and while they read their independent novel. We also continue to read Frindle in class while working on vocabulary and comprehension strategies. Starting this week they have reading homework every night with their independent novels, which is glued in their notebooks. |
