Parent update Week of November 13 3rd ELA
This week in 3rd grade Reading and English, students had an interactive notebook lesson on simple, compound, ad complex sentences. We practiced them as a whole class and they practiced them independently as well. The next whole class novel we are reading is called Because of Winn-Dixie. As we read the novel, we talk about different reading strategies, and this week we started looking at how authors create different characters. The Anthology project is a contest throughout southeastern Wisconsin offered to 3rd through 5th graders, it is new to 3rd graders this year, and we started looking into this year's theme which is: What's Inside. This will be a project we are working on in school from now until winter break. 4th ELA This week in 4th grade Reading and English, students had an interactive notebook lesson on interrogative, imperative, exclamatory, and declarative sentences. We practiced as a whole group and they practiced independently. The next whole class novel we are reading is called Number the Stars. It is a historical fiction novel that takes place in Denmark during World War II. As we read the novel we are looking at different story devices that the author uses. This week, they learned about foreshadowing, suspense, cliffhangers, and flashback. Lastly, they started working on their Anthology project. This year's theme is: What's Inside. This is an in school project we will be working on from now until winter break. 5th ELA This week in 5th grade Reading and English, students had an interactive notebook lesson on interrogative, imperative, exclamatory, and declarative sentences. They practiced by playing a Kahoot and worked on identifying the sentences independently. The next whole class novel we are reading is called Among the Hidden. It follows a third child that is ban from society. As we read we are discussing different ways authors use story devices.This week, they learned about foreshadowing, suspense, cliffhangers, and flashback. Lastly, they started working on their Anthology project. This year's theme is: What's Inside. This is an in school project that we will be working on from now until winter break.

Parent Update week of October 30th 3rd Grade ELA
This week in 3rd grade Reading and English, we focused on summarizing short stories, picking out main events in a story, and making sure they are in order of beginning, middle, and end. We continue to work on subject and predicates of a sentence as a whole class and they started to practice independently. They also enjoyed a couple Halloween activities and centers on Friday. 4th Grade ELA This week in 4th grade Reading and English, we have been focusing on prefixes, suffixes, and root words and will continue to do that throughout second quarter. They also have been working on apostrophe practice, specifically possessive nouns. As a class we practiced them and they will be working on them independently next week. Number the Stars is our next whole class novel we will be reading, which we started this week. Lastly, they enjoyed a couple Halloween activities and centers on Friday. 5th Grade ELA This week in 5th grade Reading and English, we had our chapter 4 Greek and Latin root word quiz. They had two interactive notebook lessons, one on how readers learn about characters and one on apostrophes. We specifically worked on possessive nouns, which we will continue to do through next week. Our next whole class novel is Among the Hidden, which we started this week. Lastly, the had a couple of Halloween activities and enjoyed centers on Friday. ****Reminders: Our classroom basket theme is rainbow. Every student was assigned a color and we are collecting items until November 27th |
